The Role:

Install, configure, and support an organization's MySQL databases. Monitor MySQL databases to ensure database availability and perform necessary tuning and troubleshooting to support databases availability. Assist in database dimensioning, analysis, planning, and coordination between Applications and VM(s) hardware and software. May supervise Applications specialists and will administrate MySQL databases.

Essential Job Functions:

• Support Development teams to optimize and standardize database changes through builds and deployments.


• Support and develop automation for deployment activities related to database changes


• Essential Database administration - install, configure, upgrade, back up, and monitor MySQL databases


• Help architect to implement solutions that solve complicated application challenges, including application performance, scalability, and security. This includes schema, index and key design and enterprise application architecture.


• Establish project priority and to assist with resolution of database problems.


• Expertise in relational database administration including configuration, implementation, data modeling, maintenance, redundancy/HA, security, troubleshooting/performance tuning, upgrades, database, data and server migrations, SQL


• Test, tune and deploy database changes


• Troubleshoot database problems and failures, to determine the causes and possible solutions, implements solutions to resolve problems.


• Troubleshoot Linux/Unix operating systems for database performance


• Monitor database operations and prepare monthly activity reports for the reporting manager regarding activities, database problems and utilization


• Perform database backups and disaster recovery operations.


• Capacity planning and disk space management


• Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to protect database.


• Design and present technical recommendations or analysis


• Document and share database best practices and procedures

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in computer science or related discipline.


• Must have a minimum of 5 years of solid hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of database technology such as MySQL, Oracle, SQL, noSQL and including analytical function is required


• Must have minimum 3 - 5 years of solid experience of Database Tuning.


• MySQL is required


• Oracle, PostgreSQL and NoSQL like Mongo and Cassandra a plus


• Ability to tune database parameters.


• Understanding of database administration and management


• Understanding of database architecture for high availability and disaster recover


• Experience with backup and recovery strategies and techniques


• Experience with database security and controls


• Experience with database metrics and monitoring


• Ability to troubleshoot database issues and provide recommendations


• Proficient in Linux/UNIX general management and troubleshooting


• Shell script experience, java script a plus


• Automation tool experience with Chef/Jenkins a plus


• Certified MySQL 5.6 Database Administrator a plus


• Experience with version control systems


• Database admin/security/architecture in one or more database technologies


• Troubleshooting/tuning experience in one or more database technologies


• Written and verbal communication skills required


• Good team skills with a wiliness to share and learn
