Job Description:

Under the overall guidance of the Senior Advisor and direct supervision of the Provincial EOC Coordinator & Senior Data Analyst, the incumbent epidemiologist/ senior field support officer shall be part of the Applied Advanced EpiAnalytics team in the respective EOC. He/she is expected to perform the following key duties at the Provincial Emergency Operations Center (PEOC) for the Polio Eradication Initiative:

  • Provide technical assistance to the assigned province for Polio Eradication Initiative (PEI) in terms of real time identification of hotspots of viral transmission, as well as providing support in field investigation and response to the wild poliovirus or vaccine-derived poliovirus cases and environmental detections.
  • Perform data management, analysis, impact assessment and reporting of activities in compliance with the Outbreak Response Plan.
  • Ensure that the updated global and national guidelines are adequately applied and used at all levels for the investigation of AFP cases and provide support and critically review weekly/monthly surveillance data and identify and mediate gaps, if any.
  • Travel frequently to respond to the provincial EOC requests to extend support in the identified low-performing districts and high-risk areas and UCs in terms of the active case search/active case finding of AFP (Acute flaccid paralysis), review of medical records, and provide technical assistance at the district / health facility level as needed.
  • Take part in pre, intra and post campaign phases and to support different activities as per provincial needs with an aim of ensuring that the desired highest quality of the SIAs campaign is achieved.
  • Participate in and facilitate training workshops aiming at capacity building of human resource at all levels (Province, district, and UC) for SIAs, Essential Immunization and AFP/VPD Surveillance.
  • Coordinate with Provincial EPI and PEI teams to support the implementation of the PEI-EPI synergy action plan, recommendations, and other activities suggested by the EOC.
  • Analyze immunization data from all sources, identify gaps and suggest corrective measures at Provincial EOC.
  • Conduct in-depth statistical analysis and data triangulation to help the Program in monitoring its progress and the impact of its interventions, including performance related to AFP surveillance, SIAs, monitoring, Missed Children Coverage, preparing reports/ presentations in term of trend analysis, and managing geospatial database for developing maps using Tableau, GIS and other relevant software.
  • Support the EPI team in ensuring the low-performing UCs are prioritized for EOAs and coverage plan for zero dose.
  • Prepare PEI situation reports and activity reports of districts and provincial levels and update these on a regular basis.
  • Undertake other relevant duties as directed by the Senior Advisor and Senior Data Analyst.
  • Actively participate in the organizational biweekly calls/ visual meetings.
